Mama Mia

Mama's @ Washington Square Park

Who loves food?! I do! A local favorite of mine, Mama's at San Francisco Washington Square! Very famous, very well known, and very good. Opens at 8, line starts at 7! A family owned mom and pop breakfast joint, they've been endlessly acknowledged and won plenty of awards in many magazines, travel journals, blogs, newspaper, and probably many more!

We got in line at 9:30 AM and did not actually get to sit until 12:30 PM. For those unfamiliar, the line extends nearly half a block, you're welcomed into a little shop where you order first than be seated. Literally an L shape restaurant, there's little room for people to wander around.

Now for the food! I myself got the North Beach Egg Benedict, which has prosciutto and grilled tomato on top of an English muffin with soaked in their homemade sauced with a side of potatoes (the very bottom dish in the picture). The English Muffin is nicely toasted, eggs perfected poached, and the grilled potatoes are seasoned just right - crispy on the outside and firm on the inside.

On the very top is the Mama's French Toast Sampler topped with seasonal berries! This dish is French toast made with three different toast (cranberry, cinnamon I believe, and banana) so each toast holds a different flavor and hence - the sampler!
Right next to is the Northwest Omelette made with smoked salmon.

The very middle is one of their most famous dishes - the Monte Cristo. The famous triangle sandwich is a basically a French toast with turkey breast, ham, and cheddar sandwiched between the toast. While this is their most famous well known dish, for some reason I wasn't a big fan of the dish - not something I would get again. Maybe because it's not very breakfast like?

We also got two cakes - both warmed and sweet! The classic crumble and I think the blueberry cream?

Although we waited three hours, the staff was extremely friendly. It was our friend's birthday so we got the WHOLE restaurant singing happy birthday and an extra cake out of it (which is why we got two!!). While talking to the cashier, I mentioned I had just graduated and he threw in the Monte Cristo :) Which is why we look like fatties for three people!!

I wish I grabbed more pictures! But until than...see you on my next food adventure :)
